What this site collects about you, why, and how to opt out.

This page is written in plain language to meet Québec’s Law 25 on the protection of personal information. Last updated: October 10, 2026.

Who is responsible

Samuel Tremblay, in Montréal, is the person responsible for the protection of personal information on this site. For any question or request: nouvelles@samfaitsonvin.com.

What the site collects

  • Your email address, only when you join La Liste. The form asks for nothing else.
  • The date and IP address of your confirmation. When you click the link in the confirmation email, MailerLite records them as proof that you asked to receive La Liste.
  • What you do with my emails: MailerLite notes when you open an email (with your IP address and the type of browser or email software) and when you click a link.
  • Your IP address, as on any website. It is used to deliver pages and to limit repeated form submissions (five per minute). The site doesn’t keep it itself; Cloudflare, which hosts it, handles it as described below and may record it in the site program’s logs.
  • Your messages, if you write to me. They are kept in my email inbox, with Apple (iCloud Mail), in the United States, for as long as needed to reply to you.
  • Your visit, only if you accept audience measurement: the pages you view, your device and browser type, and the approximate origin of your visit (see below).

Cookies and audience measurement

By default, the site sets nothing. A banner asks whether you agree to let me measure the audience with Google Analytics, to see which articles are useful. If you decline, nothing is loaded or set.

If you accept, Google sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_ followed by the site’s identifier, which last up to two years, and receives information about your visit. I turn off Google signals and personalized advertising. Google Analytics keeps detailed data for two months. Google is based in the United States: your information may be processed there.

You can change your mind at any time with the “Audience measurement” link at the bottom of every page: Google Analytics cookies are then erased. I also use Google Search Console to see how the site appears in search results; it sets nothing on your device.

Amazon affiliate links

Some articles contain affiliate links to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. These links go through Amazon’s short address (amzn.to).

When you click one, you leave this site: Amazon may then set its own cookies and record where you came from, to credit me with the purchase. My site sets nothing for this and loads no Amazon scripts. Amazon’s policy applies as soon as you are on its site: Amazon.ca privacy notice.

Why I use this data

Your address is used to send you La Liste, which is written in French: from time to time, never more than once a quarter, news about my small-batch winemaking.

Opens and clicks tell me which topics interest you. MailerLite also infers an approximate region from your IP address. If you prefer to limit this measurement, you can block the automatic loading of images in your email software; clicks are still measured, though.

None of this is sold, rented or used for anything else.

La Liste is for people aged 18 and over.

The site program’s logs are used only to understand why a sign-up fails or why the site crashes.

Your consent

You sign up yourself, then confirm by clicking the link in the email MailerLite sends you. Without that click, you receive nothing. By signing up, you also accept the measurement of opens and clicks described above; unsubscribing ends it. You can withdraw your consent at any time: every email contains an unsubscribe link that works in one click.

Where it is kept

Your email address is kept with MailerLite, the service that sends La Liste. It hosts it in European Union data centres. Because my account is outside Europe, its American entity, MailerLite, Inc., provides the service: your information may therefore also be processed in the United States.

The site is hosted with Cloudflare. To deliver pages to you, it sees the IP address of your connection; it acts for me as a processor. It processes and keeps its data mainly in the United States and the European Economic Area, and doesn’t publish a fixed retention period for its connection logs. I use none of Cloudflare’s audience measurement tools. I have, however, turned on the site program’s logs (Workers Logs): they record each call to that program, such as signing up for La Liste, with its error messages and technical details of the request, which may include your IP address. They are used for troubleshooting, and Cloudflare erases them after 3 days.

I am the only person with access to this information, and my MailerLite, Cloudflare and Google accounts are protected by two-factor authentication.

How long I keep it

I keep your address as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, MailerLite keeps it marked “unsubscribed” so that I don’t write to you by mistake. If you ask me to erase it, I delete it with MailerLite’s “forget” function: all the information is then permanently erased within 30 days.

The site program’s logs are erased automatically by Cloudflare after 3 days.

Your rights

  • know what information I have about you and get a copy;
  • have an inaccurate piece of information corrected;
  • withdraw your consent;
  • ask me to erase your address; and
  • obtain your information or have it sent to someone else.

It’s free. To protect your information, I may ask you to write to me from the address you signed up with.

Write to me at nouvelles@samfaitsonvin.com. I reply within 30 days. For a complaint, write to me with “Complaint” as the subject: I reply in writing within 30 days. If my reply doesn’t satisfy you, you can contact the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.

If these rules change

I update this page and its date.
